Around the Web

This is going to be quick because I’ve a test and paper due tomorrow (oh, the joys of exam time!). Well, exam time means there’s a good chunk of time spend surfing the web ignoring all the projects I have piling up. Just kidding. A little. I thought I’d share some fun things I’ve found around the internet lately.

Several cat videos are about to happen, just a warning. They are the ultimate productivity suck.

I found my next workout routine for when Best Body Bootcamp wraps up:

True life, I’ve actually tried to bicep curl my cat before. Unfortunately she only weighs 7lbs so it wasn’t much of a workout. Thanks to this video I know realize the key is a cat in each hand. Watch out kitties.

I know this video is all over the place but I seriously die laughing every single time I see it. I don’t think it will ever get old.

I just want to know what cat would actually let you dress them up in a shark costume, because I want one. I think my hands would be shredded if I attempted that my cats.

16 Sasst Tweets from The Nation’s 16th Largest School District – I don’t know if this should make me proud of my former school district, or just worried for education.

9 Myths & Misconceptions about Pilates – I think I’ve heard every single one of these since becoming a Pilates and they’re just not true. Pilates is awesome and I think everyone should do it. I might be a little biased about that 🙂

I’m currently completely obsessed with this song. Like listen to it 10+ a day everyday kind of obsessed, I can’t get enough!

I’m also obsessed with Macklemore‘s album “The Heist”. I bought it before my 10-miler for a little new music to push me through those 10 miles and it’s pretty fantastic.

I also think Macklemore’s face is pretty fantastic. Actually, I think I just like a man in Batman footie pajamas.

Maybe I shouldn’t admit that.

99U by Behance – while their articles are mainly design-focused, they have some really great articles about more general topics like cultivating creativity and business advice. Plus because the website if for designers, the design is beautiful, is it bad that I immediately judge websites based on how pretty they are? I just can’t take a poorly designed website seriously, I just can’t.

62 Gluten Free Dessert Recipes – thanks to Greatist, I am drooling already.

Tina’s adding some exciting new features to the next round of Best Body Bootcamp, which you should definitely check out because it’s an AMAZING program.

Injuries Suck and a Brain Dump

Being injured is just a big pile of poo. My naggy back-of-the-knee pain will not go away and it is about to drive me crazy. It subsides a lot when I don’t run, but never completely away and when I think I’m safe to run again, BAM post-run it’s back.

injured

Okay, I’m being a little whiny, but I know you fellow runners/exercises/just generally active people feel my pain (pun somewhat intended). It stinks being side-lined by an injury and to be honest I’m not dealing with it too well, and it’s bumming me out a lot.

For one, I really hate sitting still, I mean I can laze around watching Food Network for hours (especially if Paula Deen is on) but there comes I point where I I have to get up and DO something to save my sanity. Two, I’m the worst injured person ever. Luckily I’ve never had any major injuries, but I usually just try to ignore the pain and keep on keepin’ on. Hey, I never claimed to be smart about injury prevention. And lastly I’ve got some big races coming up, races I really need to train for and I can’t, lamelamelame.

Okay, pity party over. Here’s what I’m doing to try to speed up recovery:

  • Ice, lots and lots of it
  • Stretching, trying to get back in the habit of regular yoga because I can tell my hamstrings/calves are tightttt.
  • Anti-Inflammatories, which is a big deal because I’m a hippie and will avoid taking pills for as long as possible. Desperation is sinking in.
  • Low impact exercises, I’ve been a spin class FREAK, I might even resort to the elliptical soon, yuck I hate that thing.

How do you keep your sanity when you’re injured?

Time for a brain dump, AKA all that random thoughts that filter through my head on a daily basis.

  • I hate road closures, I’ve literally ran into 6 different ones since I’ve been home, why you gotta be so difficult to navigate Raleigh?
  • BYOK>BYOL and by BYOK I mean Bring Your Own Kale, that should be a thing, because I totally would.

I mean, I already put it in cupcakes

  • Forget Walgreens, there should be a Trader Joe’s on every corner. Pretty please.
  • Peanut butter fixes everything. I was making a tofu/veggie stir fry and couldn’t find a good asian-y sauce (is that even PC to say?) so I mixed in peanut butter with a little salt and pepper. Problem solved.
  • These need to get in my belly ASAP

  • You can totally judge a fro yo place by how good their chocolate flavor is.
  • 85% cacao, come on Joe, step it up, where’s my 100% at?
  • This afternoon I pulled up the wrong way to the gas pump and 5 different cars of people watched me get back in the car, start it up and turn it around. Sometimes my own intelligence just amazes me.
  • Tomorrow afternoon I will be on the beachhhhh. Well not exactly on the beach because it’s supposed to be in the 40s (ew) but beach adjacent.
  • Thrift Shop is the most relatable hip hop song I’ve heard in a while. I can’t relate to:

But I can relate to shopping at a thrift store, oh so much.

  • Sorry for being horrible with keeping up one comments/reading/all forms of social media, I’ve been enjoying spring break by spending less time on the computer. I miss you guys but I’m enjoying being a little unplugged, I promise I’ll catch back up soon!

How do you deal with an injury?

What’s your brain brain dump for today?

  4. I’ve had the most intense craving for chocolate lately, I’ve been mixing cocoa powder into EVERYTHING but it is just not the same as a huge chocolate bar. I need to find one ASAP. Girl problems.
  5. I gave a speech about Scooby Doo in my public speaking class, did you know Scooby Doo’s real name is Scoobert Doo? He fancy.

  6. Speaking of Scooby Doo, I watched 2.5 episodes today while running on the treadmill, my favorite new way to pass the time. 5 miles in 55 minutes, I need things to warm up because treadmill runs are starting to push my sanity.
  7. This article made me squeal a little: De-Stressing Inspiration From Cats and Dogs So. Dang. CUTE.
  8. Mustaches with roommates:
Of course mine was pink 🙂 Sometimes mustache parties happen on random Thursday nights, did I mention I love my roommates?
  9. Yessssssss

Colonel Meow is my favorite, please check him out if you haven’t. Hi-larious.
  10. I got asparagus on sale for $1.49/lb, super produce sales for the win! Asparagus is usually $5/lb yeahhhhhh. Sorry, I get really excited about vegetable deals because they don’t happen often enough.
  11. I still owe you guys a post about Fit Expo, it’s coming I promise! I want to devote a real amount of time to writing it, time which is non-existent right now, soon!

  13. The earring in my rook fell out today, which is weird because that’s never happened before, I have no idea where it went, but luckily when you have 10 ear piercings there are plenty to go around.

Here’s a random close up picture from the day I got it done (3 years ago! Time for a new one! Just kidding dad, sorta).

  14. I don’t want to end this post with a picture of my ear or on an odd number (I’m an even number freak) so here’s another picture of a cat because that seems to be the theme tonight.

    Ohmygoodness. I can’t handle it.

Are you a Scooby Doo fan? What are your favorite cartoons?

Do you have any piercings? 4 in my right lobe, 3 in my left lobe, 2 in my left cartilage and my right rook, sounds like a lot but it doesn’t look to crazy… I think.

Are you a Colonel Meow or Grumpy Cat fan? You have to pick one, I’m team Colonel Meow AKA the best team (kidding but not really)

Thursday Thoughts

Tangents and other random musings.

  1. Plyometrics feel like death – sometimes I think I’m in decent shape, then I take a cardio class full of plyo and I realize um, not so much. My legs were on fire! And it was only a 30 minute class, wimp. I know plyo is sooo good for you, but ouch. And my legs are still dead from the spin and yoga classes I took yesterday
  2. Hydration is important – and I suck at it. Lame water consumption + plyo = leg cramps. Not fun, go drink some water right now. Seriously.
  3. If you go to the gas station on the nice side of town it will be more expensive – Lesson learned. $10 didn’t even get me 3 gallons of gas. That depresses me a lot.
  4. Buying snacks at the Fresh Market on the nice side of town will be equally expensive – and there was a Kroger right down the street, I’m such a little dummy sometimes. I was trying to find some snacks to bring with me to work that were quick and not messy, I ended up with an apple, a bag of baby carrots and a Think Thin bar, not bad.
  5. Dogs should be able to get a drivers license.ImageHow could that possible end badly?
  6. Maybe I would sleep better if I slept like this:
ImageHe actually sleeps like that, I’m hoping it’s more comfortable than it looks. Or he at least dreams about being superman. He purrs when you rub his belly, it makes me smile.
  7. My dad is getting mad at me for chewing my vegetables too loudly
Health-freak problems. Don’t hate on my cruciferous vegetables, the louder the better. I have to get in my daily 359389 grams of fiber.
  8. Gullah Gullah Island was an amazing show.
and the theme song has been stuck in my head all day, and I don’t hate it. I miss 90s kid’s shows. That was some quality entertainment. I also miss Bananas in Pajamas and Blue’s Clues, quality television right there. Can we go just back to 1997 for a little while?
  9. Harry Potter is on TV.
    My evening is complete.

Because I Can’t Sleep

I’m blogging instead, might as well be productive. I have a presentation to give in the morning but of course I’m not tired, typical.

Unfortunately, it was a less than exciting day. Just exam junk and rain. Boo.

This post is a little pointless. That’s okay.

I got in a 2.5 mile run and some yoga today. The run felt pretty good, but the yoga didn’t go so well. I’ve been neglecting it the past couple of days and my muscles were super tight and not excited about it. I’m making a bee line to a yoga class asap when I get home.

Image

I’m still working on the Yoga Challenge and still trying to make a habit of it. My body definitely needs some more yoga right now.

My goal this summer is to work on my arm balances, because I’ll actually have room to do them.

And in other news North Carolina’s Amendment one past:

Image

And even made national headlines. Embarrassing. I love my home state, but I’m disappointed at the moment. It makes me sad that there’s still so much prejudice in this day and age. I only hope to get this amendment appealed as soon as possible. Also, Katie wrote a great post regarding the passing of amendment one here.

This afternoon I was browsing around downtown Boone for a birthday present for a friend, and found some fun things along the way.

Image

Full disclosure, there are a lot of things I love more than bacon. Like most things.

Image

I love this cat. My friend actually has owns this same creature, she bought it at a thrift store. I had no idea more than one of these things existed. I might have to go back and get it.

Image

A lion in a fedora. It makes him much hipper. Obviously.

Downtown Boone is an eclectic place, gotta love it.

And I ended my day with:

Image

Doing a marketing project on Starbucks entitles me to drink by the gallon right? Right.

Maybe that’s why I can’t sleep.
