Floods, Cats and PRs {Thankful Thursday}

I have lots to be thankful for this Thursday

thankful thursday

(First I’m thankful for Jessie‘s weekly dose of gratitude!)

I’m thankful that I live on a hill, so my apartment and car are safe and dry.

There were quite a few cars stranded underwater in yesterday’s flash flooding and I feel so bad for the people who have to deal with flood damage. Luckily no one was hurt (that I’ve heard).

I’m thankful that Sam made it out of surgery okay.

hungrybeast

He had his large intestine removed (how crazy does that sound? I know they do that to humans too, but that sounds pretty intense!) because it wasn’t working and he was constipated and miserable all the time, poor guy.

I know you came to my blog to listen to me talk about cat poop. I aim to please.

Anyway, it sounds like it wasn’t too risky of the surgery, but all surgery freaks me out so I was a big ball of stress all day. But according to my dad everything went well, he just has to have fluids through an IV and limited activity for 2 weeks. Hopefully then he’ll be back to his usual ham of a self.

I’m thankful for PRs!!! I ran a 5k in 28:30 today! Bam. Yes it was on a treadmill which is cheating a little, but it was a full 2 minutes faster than my last 5k PR thankyouverymuch. Assuming that the treadmill was not broken, because that’s immediately what I though when I looked down and saw that I was doing 8:30 minute miles, were the heck did that come from? I’m going to blame it on the mass amounts of sunflower seed butter I’ve been eating, which justifies me buying a new jar this week right? I think so.

post run duck face thumbs up

PRs warrant duck faces and thumbs up right?  Let’s go with yes. Also excuse the snow jacket, it’s cold here, nevermind that I’m sitting inside my heated apartment. When is spring?

I’m thankful for George Gershwin’s wonderful music. I’ve been jamming to some Gershwin lately. First off I think using jamming in the same sentence as a classical composer is something to proud of, second I can’t get enough of Rhapsody in Blue and all things jazzy and classical. It makes doing homework 100% better.

What are you thankful for today?

What music have you been listening to lately?

Please brag about your PRs here because they are awesome and I want to hear them! Everyone needs a good brag.

Back on the Mountain Top.

It’s back to school for me! Heading back to Boone is always a little bittersweet. I love Appalachian but I do miss my family when I’m away. But I think a little homesickness is good, it makes me appreciate time spent with my family that much more.

My cat Sam was meowing at the back door while I was leaving. I’d like to think it’s because I’m his favorite human and he’s going to miss me lots, but I’m pretty sure he just wanted to chase the squirrel in the tree behind me.

I tried to get a picture of the mountains on my drive, the leaves are growing back and the mountains are bright green and beautiful. It didn’t really work. Not crashing took priority.

The dining halls were closed when I got back which gave me a great excuse to hit up Earth Fare’s hot bar for dinner.

ImageRoasted veggies and coconut curry tofu. Delicious.

Dinner was followed by a cup of kava tea. Which is magical and tastes like chocolate.

I feel inspired every time I drink a cup of Yogi Tea (Sorry for the blur).

Back to the grind tomorrow morning. The high tomorrow is 46, lameeee. But I’m staying positive because I’ve only got a 2 day week. I’m already ready for the weekend though.

Not-Quite-Wordless Wednesday

Avocado Cocoa Smoothie:

  •  1/2 Avocado
  • 1 cup milk (I used soy)
  • 1 tsp honey (if you have a normal sweet tooth you may want to add more, you can also sub agave for a vegan option)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Ice cubes

Blend. Chug. Repeat.

I thought it tasted like much less sugary Wendy’s frosty. Yummy. But my brothers reaction was “EWWW! You put avocado in your smoothie?! EEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW!”
He’s very mature for an 18 year old, clearly.

Sometimes I like to pretend I have a fashion sense. Thank you Mother Nature for making warm enough for me to wear a skirt. Sorry to everyone that caught a glimpse of my casper-like legs.

Hey look I own a real camera.

I swear my boyfriend loves me, my camera not so much.

And he’s got holes in his ears.

I might be a crazy cat lady, but that is the cutest face on the face of the earth. Try to deny it, try.

What do you eat for dessert when you’re not eating sweets, craving chocolate and out of oatmeal?
Sweet potato, peanut butter, cocoa powder, cinnamon
Yes it looks weird, no I don’t care, and it was delicious. Seriously someone should try it and back me up because my whole family is currently disgusted with me.

Post mixing. I thought maybe if my first photo didn’t make it look appetizing, a second bad cell phone picture that makes it look like cat puke would. I see a future in food styling. Don’t crush my dreams.
